This is a converted Austin Healey 100-4. Originally it had a generator putting out about 28 amps on a good day. Now it puts out about 63 every day. The car had at the time two electric fans, two large spot lights, additional brake lights and gauges.
The unit is a GM Alternator fitted to the original Generator mount bracket. It uses the original very wide fan belt, which allowed for the water pump, drive pulley and generator pulley to be used.
The adjustment can be seen on the right side, it's a bar that's bolted to an existing front engine plate hole.
Can you see the original control box ?
While not needed for the alternator it was left as is with the connections inside disconnected.
Here is a straight swap on a TR6, a GM alternator in place of the original 40 year old Lucas at half the cost.
This setup uses the original TR6 fan belt and wiring.
The mounting points on the engine block had to be modified slightly.
The body of the Alternator was modified also to allow for a full swing to replace the fan belt.
This is the simplest of conversions, the Healey above being a little more involved.

This is a 1960 Triumph TR3A converted using an alternator from a Ford. This has a external regulator where as the GM units have internal regulators.
For some time now many British Car owners have been converting their cars from positive to negative earth, "ok then, Ground" followed by an upgrade to the charging system. I completed this task on both my TR3 and the 100-4 years ago.
While it's not a difficult task to undertake, it does present it's individual challenges depending on your particular setup.
For example, some early Generators have the Tach drive coming out the back ! Some cars have control boxes, some have aged Lucas Alternators, well past their sell by date.
Whatever your situation I can complete your conversion to the level and quality you want, providing years of reliability.
Each conversion is different, because of this an evaluation and may be a little research will have to be done first.
If you would like me to provide you with an estimate on your conversion please contact me.
