1971 TR6 Restoration October 2011

1971 Triumph TR6

This is a car brought to me in Sept 2010.  As you will see from the photos it was quite rough.  I repaired the floors, installed new rockers, battery box area, and several sections in the inner and outer fenders.

As of October 2011 the car is finally finished, with the exception of the tail lights and bumpers which are on their way from the chrome shop.

The car has its original engine which had all the gaskets changed, not what I would call a rebuild,,,,just to keep the oil in !  It's had a complete mechanical restoration, brakes, suspension, transmission and o/d rebuild, diff rebuilt, steering and rear wheel bearings.  The dash was replaced together with the full interior and soft top.

  • Engine bay

    • Taken Sept 2011

    • Painted in high build primer.

The engine bay had all the rot cut away, repair panels made including the normal battery box replacement.  It was all painted by hand with Hirsch Miracle then painted over with a high build primer. The frame was wire brushed, rust treated, painted with miracle paint and top coated with chassis black.

  • Right side foot well

    • Solid floor but the corner had gone.

    • Made a repair panel to suit.

  • Outside of right side foot well

    • Not much to say about this !

    • Inner and outer rockers fitted.

Much pre fab work had to be done in this area as well as the other side, which was actually worse than this side.  Don't for a second think your new rockers will solve the problem,,,,or even fit !

  • Right side rear rocker section.

    • All had to cut out.

    • Now it's solid again.

The left side needed the same repair doing.

  • Lower rear panel damage.

    • Rotted sections cut out.

    • New panels fabricated and fitted.

Both rear fenders tap mud over the years which causes this area to rot away.  I fabricated repair panels and box sections to mout the bumper.

  • Trunk lid lip.

    • Lip rotted out

    • New sections made.

Looks an easy fix, but this was double skinned and both sections had to be replaced along the length of the trunk lid.

  • Right rear inner fender

    • All the old underseal removed

    • New parts and better shocks fitted.

Repair was needed to the frame at the shock mount point.

  • Dash replacement

    • Taken in September 2010

    • A few months later.

A n original refaced dash was installed, gauges cleaned, all the crash pads replaced including the top of the dash.  The transmission was rebuilt and the engine had all the gaskets replaced.

  • Ready for the paint shop.

    • All fenders repaired and pre painted and undersealed prior to painting.

    • All bumpers, mirrors and dash had been test fitted prior to painting.

I actually drove it like this !

  • Seat rebuild

You just buy the kit and throw it on right ?   Good luck!
